HOW
TO...
find out , on the Internet,
if your local library
has a book on bats
that you would like to read.
There are different methods used by most libraries that will allow you to access, on the Internet, the catalogue of the books available in their library as well as their branch libraries: This is done through their "search" methods which can be different for each library.
From this site you can locate your library
and see if it offers this special
"search" opportunity. On the left side of this page
you'll see three listings:
DIFFERENT LIBRARY SERVERS
ACCESS TO U.S. PUBLIC LIBRARIES
ACCESS TO WORLDWIDE LIBRARIES
DIFFERENT LIBRARY SERVERS:
This site is from the St. Joseph County Public Library in South Bend, Indiana. You will see three servers listed...Gopher, WWW and Telnet. The Libraries listed under the Telnet server will automatically give you that library's "search" system for their catalogue.
The other servers, Gopher and WWW, will list many (but not all) Public Libraries with many of those libraries giving you a "search" opportunity.
ACCESS TO U.S. PUBLIC LIBRARIES:
This is the Yahoo Search Engine Public Library page listing over 660 Public Libraries, mainly in the United States (although there are some from other countries as well). You will most likely find your public library on this list. Many of the libraries will have a "search" system that you can access and then search for the bat book you might want to check out and read. It can all be done on the Internet while you are on this Book Page of Bats Bats Everywhere.
ACCESS TO WORLDWIDE LIBRARIES:
This too is a page from the Yahoo Search Engine listing many countries. You can click on the country for a list of their libraries. Many will have a type of "search" program to see what bat books for young students might be available.
